"Whether I'm painting, drawing or using textiles, moving head first into the unknown fuels my creativity".
Sheila Frampton-Cooper is a Northern California–based visual artist whose work is rooted in intuition, color, and the courage to begin without a map. Her creative practice spans painting, drawing, mixed media, and textiles, all guided by a deep trust in process and an ongoing conversation with the natural world.
Working without preliminary sketches or rigid plans, Sheila allows each piece to unfold organically. Color, shape, and rhythm lead the way, revealing unexpected relationships and moments of discovery along the journey. Whether on canvas, cloth, or a public surface, her work invites curiosity, movement, and a sense of playful exploration.
Sheila’s background includes extensive exhibition experience and recognition in major national and international art venues. Today, her focus has returned fully to painting, where she brings years of material knowledge and compositional sensitivity into vibrant, expressive works designed to live in shared spaces and spark connection.
At the heart of her practice is a belief that art is a communal experience — one that can transform everyday environments into moments of wonder, reflection, and joy.
Artist Statement
Zoombaby is the name I give to the part of myself that moves toward intensity, curiosity, and risk. It is an approach to living as much as it is an approach to making. In the studio, that energy translates into improvisation, momentum, and a willingness to begin without knowing where I will land.
I work across painting, drawing, and fiber, using color, shape, and line as primary language. Rather than planning or sketching, I build compositions through direct engagement, allowing surprises to emerge through process. The work asks for trust, presence, and a tolerance for uncertainty.
What fuels me is the moment when a piece begins to reveal its own logic. That sense of discovery is exhilarating and deeply satisfying. Over time, this intuitive way of working has taught me to listen more closely, take creative risks, and remain open to transformation.
