Creative Workshops & Community Programs

I offer small-group creative workshops designed to support reflection, connection, and personal expression through accessible art processes.

These workshops are welcoming to all experience levels and focus on curiosity, exploration, and the joy of making rather than perfection.

Participants are encouraged to explore themes that feel meaningful to them โ€” whether that includes personal history, present experiences, or hopes for the future.

My facilitation style is responsive and participant-centered. Rather than a fixed curriculum, I guide each participant individually, supporting the unique creative process of every person in the group.

Workshop Series Include:

  • Creative Explorations: Art for Reflection & Personal Expression

  • Color & Creativity: Exploring Mood and Expression Through Color

  • Fabric Stories: Personal Textile Art Panels

  • Memory & Meaning: Visual Storytelling Through Art

I work with:

  • community organizations

  • wellness programs

  • support groups

  • schools and libraries

  • guilds

My Creative Approach & Philosophy

My approach to teaching art is centered on helping people relax into the creative process. Many people feel intimidated when faced with a blank page or canvas, so I encourage participants to begin with simple points of inspiration such as shapes found in nature, photographs, or color relationships.

These small starting places provide a gentle framework that helps people move past the fear of โ€œnot knowing what to doโ€ and into a spirit of exploration.

From there, the focus shifts toward play, experimentation, and curiosity. Participants learn how basic design elements such as color, scale, and composition can support their work while still leaving plenty of room for spontaneity and personal expression.

In my experience as a lifelong artist and teacher, creativity flourishes when people realize they cannot get it wrong. When the pressure to achieve a particular outcome is removed, participants often discover ideas, confidence, and enjoyment they didnโ€™t expect.

My goal is to create a welcoming environment where people feel supported, curious, and free to explore their own creative voice.

โ€œThank you so much for an inspiring lecture! It was wonderfully dynamic and heartfelt. Many compliments from the members. And now everyone who is taking the workshop in March is even more excited.โ€
— Kathrin Brown, Monterey Peninsula Quilters Guild
โ€œThank you again for the wonderful presentation yesterday! Your talk was very inspirational. You have lived a life full of travel and teaching. Everyone loved your work! We hope to see you in a virtual workshop in the future.โ€
— Keary and Maribeth on behalf of the Huron Perth Quilters Guild
โ€œDuring the early part of the pandemic, I participated in a one day zoom workshop given by Sheila. The technique was challenging, but accessible to me as an intermediate quilter. The workshop was a lot of fun and Sheila was delightful to learn from!โ€
